About Us

Avon Tyrrell’s vision is that all young people have equitable access to Outdoor Learning, which is widely accepted as a valuable part of the ecosystem that supports their personal development, and life skills and contributes to positive physical activity. We are dedicated to the continuous development of young people by providing inclusive outdoor learning, Avon Tyrrell recognises, and rewards achievements made outside the classroom and uses its stimulating locality within the New Forest National Park to allow individuals to ‘Experience, Learn and Develop’ giving them the opportunities they need to reach their full potential.


About Us

Built in 1891 the Grade 1 listed Calendar house and 65-acre site is full of history and heritage. From having been built off a winning horse bet, to being used during World War 1 and 2 as well as the manor house having been opened by the late Queen Elizabeth II, learn more about our site’s history and heritage.

We are currently looking to invest £6.4 million in an Experiential Learning and Sports Centre on site as well as deliver significant restorations to the original Manor House built in 1891.   Learn more about the Capital appeal, what is involved and how it will help Avon Tyrrell become a flagship provision for inclusivity, excellence, pioneering youth led programmes and support young people and the local community that can be utilised year round by young people.

At Avon Tyrrell, we provide powerful and engaging volunteering experiences that truly make a difference to the site and our guests and help UK Youth equip young people to thrive. Our volunteering opportunities will help your staff develop new skills whilst also team building. Your company will benefit from higher staff morale and retention by showing support to your staff to help the communities where they live and work. From volunteering for a few hours to corporate volunteer days and multiple visits there are many ways to experience volunteering here.

At Avon Tyrrell we not only provide development opportunities for the groups that visit, we also provide apprenticeships that over 25% of our workforce have completed. We provide hands on learning and experiences for young people to help further develop their careers.
