Volunteering
Volunteering with Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre in the New Forest
We have lots of volunteering opportunities at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre, and we welcome corporate groups for a day or regular committed hours.
We need help with everything from clearing paths, replacing fences and even helping us to put up a new shelter. We’ve got a never-ending list of jobs!

How you can help us
By volunteering to help us, you’re supporting UK Youth, a leading charity with a vision that all young people are equipped to thrive and empowered to contribute at every stage of their lives.
- We provide fantastic development opportunities for young people at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre
- We empower young people from across the country to reach their full potential.
- We provide young people with the opportunity to participate in high quality experiences that deliver learning and personal development.
Our aim is to increase the accessibility and quality of outdoor learning for young people across the UK- helping them to experience, learn and develop.
The support we get from our volunteers enables us as a youth charity to reinvest in young people and provides more opportunities for them.

An Example Day as a Volunteer
For corporate groups, here’s an example of your day:
- 09:00: Arrive at the site for tea, coffee and breakfast rolls. Welcome and overview about Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre and UK Youth.
- 09:30-12:15: Work alongside members of the maintenance team to develop an area of the site to the benefit of the young people that visit.
- 12:15-13:00: A hot lunch will be served in our main house or on the terrace in the Summer giving you some time to refuel.
- 13:00-15:30: If you have opted for a full day of volunteering then work will continue at 13:00. If you have opted to incorporate a team-building activity, you can relax a bit and work on developing your team for an activity session at 13:45.
- 15:30: Finish your day with tea, coffee and cake plus a huge thank you from Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre.
We ask for a contribution of £20 per person for corporate volunteers, this helps to cover the costs of the catering and additional staff resources needed to support your visit. Activity costs will be additional and depend on duration and number of participants.
